Functions of Upazila Parishad
  1. To make five-year and various term development plans.
  2. To implement the programs of various government departments handed over to the council and to supervise and coordinate the activities of those departments.
  3. Construction, repair and maintenance of inter-union connecting roads.
  4. Adoption and implementation of small scale irrigation projects in the Upazila Parishad as per the directions of the government to ensure optimal use of surface water resources.
  5. Ensuring public health, nutrition and family planning services.
  6. Improving sanitation and drainage system and taking measures to supply soft drinks.
  7. (A) Provide motivation and support for the expansion of education at the upazila level;
  8. (B) Supervise the activities of the concerned institutions and provide assistance to them in order to improve the quality of secondary education and madrasa miksha activities.
  9. Undertake activities for the establishment and development of cottage and small scale industries.
  10. To provide assistance and co-ordinate the work of co-operative societies and non-governmental voluntary organizations
  11. To provide and implement support for women, children, social welfare and youth, sports and cultural activities.
  12. Adoption and implementation of activities for the development of agriculture, livestock, fisheries and forest resources.
  13. Discuss the activities of the police department including the improvement of law and order situation in the upazila and send regular reports to the higher authorities.
  14. To provide necessary assistance to the government in taking, implementing and implementing its own initiatives for self-employment and poverty alleviation.
  15. Coordinating and inspecting the development activities of the Union Parishad and providing necessary assistance.
  16. Taking other preventive measures including creating public opinion against the organization of crimes like violence against women and children.
